Premium drama, one subscription.
Starz is a subscription streaming service and cable network that delivers original series, feature films, and docuseries on demand. It is best known for character-driven drama, with a lineup built around the Outlander universe, the Power crime franchise, and a deep catalog of historical and genre favorites.
This page answers the questions people ask most: how much Starz costs right now, whether there is a free option, where you can stream it, what is new this month, and how to avoid the fake "free Starz" sites that put your device and personal data at risk.
What Is Starz?
Starz launched as a premium cable channel in 1994 and introduced its standalone streaming app in 2016. Today you can subscribe directly without a cable package, or add Starz to a service you already use.
Unlike giant libraries built around volume, Starz focuses on a smaller slate of original programming with strong fan communities. Its originals are produced for adult audiences, with an emphasis on serialized storytelling, ensemble casts, and franchise universes that continue across multiple spin-offs.
Starz Today: Ownership and Availability
Updated November 6, 2026Starz became an independent, publicly traded company in May 2024 when it separated from Lionsgate. Since then it has operated as a dedicated streaming business, concentrating its budget on original series and subscriber growth.
In the United States, Starz is available as a standalone subscription and as an add-on channel through several major platforms. Outside the U.S., many of its originals stream under the MGM+ banner or through local licensing partners, so the service name can vary by country.
Starz Pricing and Plans
The standalone Starz monthly plan costs $11.99 in the United States. That reflects a $1 increase that took effect in April 2026, after the price rose from $9.99 to $10.99 in September 2024. Existing subscribers were moved to the new rate on their renewals over the following months.
| Way to Subscribe | What to Know |
|---|---|
| Starz direct (monthly) | Standard month-to-month plan at $11.99 with no long-term contract. |
| Starz direct (annual) | Annual billing has been offered at a lower effective monthly rate. Availability and price vary, so confirm at checkout. |
| Add-on channel | Available through platforms such as Prime Video Channels, Hulu, YouTube TV, and Roku, typically at a similar price. |
| Bundles | Multi-service bundles can lower the combined cost if you already pay for a partner service. |
| Promotions | New subscribers often see limited-time introductory discounts. Terms, eligibility, and renewal pricing differ by offer. |
Always read the renewal terms before you confirm a promotion. A low introductory rate usually reverts to the standard price after the promotional period ends.
How Starz Works
Choose a sign-up route, create or link your account, and install the Starz app on your device. Titles stream on demand, so you can start, pause, and resume across devices. New episodes of current series typically arrive weekly, with some seasons released in blocks.
If you subscribe through a partner such as Amazon or Hulu, that partner handles billing and cancellation, while the Starz app or the partner's player handles streaming.

November 2026 Update
New episodes of Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 continue to arrive weekly. The season premiered on September 18, 2026, with a skip week on November 13 and the finale scheduled for November 27. In the U.S., episodes appear in the Starz app at midnight ET on Fridays and air on the network that evening.
The flagship Outlander series reached its eighth and final season earlier this year, premiering in March 2026, which makes the prequel the main way to keep following the franchise.
